Updating our Responsible Deployment Policy ahead of Max Series 5

Deni Darenberg
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Good Afternoon,
Today, we are publishing our new version of dogAdvisor's Responsible Deployment Policy as we continue on our mission of deploying safe, responsible, and accountable AI models to make owning a dog as easy as loving one. This revised policy significantly updates our deployment safety classifications for Max models, introducing new safety categories for the most advanced AI models we expect to deploy to owners over the next few years. Our new policy is now published and freely available in our Responsible Deployment Policy page.
What is a Responsible Deployment Policy?
dogAdvisor's Responsible Deployment Policy sets out how we evaluate, test, and deploy Max models over time, as well as what we do in the event of safety incidents or when something goes wrong. Our deployment policy is usually reviewed and updated on an annual basis, but we're today making updates so the policy can better match the pace of our development with Max Series 5 (our latest model currently undergoing the final stages of safety testing). In more specificity, Responsible Deployment policy "sets out how dogAdvisor manages risk and safety issues in our deployment of world-leading AI models for dog owners. In this policy statement, you'll discover how we make decisions about what models to deploy, how we assign risk categories to our models, how we control and minimise said risk, and how we respond to adverse safety incidents."
Our Responsible Deployment Policy is categorised into several core sections, which we refer to as components. The latest components published in our newest Responsible Deployment Policy are: Purpose, Model Safety Level (MSL), Obligatory Safety Controls, Additional Safety Controls, Additional Misuse Risk Mitigation, Obligatory Reporting and Research, Safety Checks, Emergency Safety Controls, and Conclusion. In our latest Responsible Deployment Policy, we made substantial updates to MSL and introduced Additional Safety Controls, Additional Misuse Risk Mitigation, and Emergency Safety Controls as new components in our Responsible Deployment Policy.
What this update brings for Max Series 5
Our Responsible Deployment Policy is integral to our mission of maximising the benefits of AI safely and responsibly whilst minimising risk. This updated policy gives you more clarity over how we assign different levels of risk, whilst introducing new risk tiers at higher MSL levels so we can prepare for future model deployment beyond Series 5. For Max Series 5, this update means we can more clearly assign a specific MSL level to the model. It also means that, thanks to new updates in our Obligatory and Additional Safety Controls, we're committing to stronger and more legally responsible safeguards and guardrails for Max Series 5, consistent with the increased safety and misalignment risk posed by this dramatically more intelligent model. Additionally, changes to our Additional Misuse Risk Mitigation policy will be more consistent and relevant to the capabilities of Max Series 5, which will include multi-modal input capabilities and have a clearer and strong approach to safety of additional capabilities (like Max Health and Personal Context).
Together, these updates to Responsible Deployment Policy provide a refreshed and more accurate view on our model deployments, more consistent with how we've been deploying and training Max Series 5 for the past eleven months. Whilst it's too early to confirm the MSL classification we intend to award Max Series 5, we're including a copy of our MSL Alignment Classifications below so you can better understand our ambitions for Max models. Of course as we continue to deploy smarter models, it's likely we introduce more advanced classifications and retire less advanced ones.
Additional Information on our new Responsible Deployment Policy
This updated Responsible Deployment Policy, dated 21st September 2026 is the second revision to our original Responsible Deployment Policy published in 2025. With Max Series 5 onwards, we will now begin directly referencing our Responsible Deployment Policy in Model Cards, clearly explaining the MSL classification we are awarding and how we're cooperating with Obligatory and Additional Safety Controls. Responsible Deployment Policy (or RDP) is published together with input from dogAdvisor users, qualified veterinary and medical professionals, and AI Safety experts who advise us on ensuring our Models remain reliable, safe, and accountable.
