Announcing our Summer/Fall Updates
We're giving you an exclusive look at updates coming later this year

Earlier this year, we shared our plans for the future of dogAdvisor - a future guided by a focused approach to research, an unparalleled approach to safety, and an intense focus on improving our voice, design, and innovations to better support dog owners across their entire dog ownership journey. In March, we announced we would make significant progress in our plans in our Summer/Fall updates. Today, we're excited to share more about what's coming later this year.
A research intensive vision for dogAdvisor
In April, we announced our vision for dogAdvisor as a research organisation, sharing more insight on how we're building safe, accountable pet intelligence infrastructure and setting new standards for responsible AI deployment. Later this year, we will make the first significant steps toward this vision starting with announcing world-first benchmarks we will introduce to empower ourselves and others to compare the performance on different Large Language Models (LLMs) on tasks and questions of dog owners. Specifically, we look forward to introducing Evaluation Index: the world's first intelligence and safety benchmark designed specifically for AI models operating in dog care and dog ownership contexts. Our Summer/Fall updates will share more details on this index, publishing research on how it was created, how our tests are conducted, and publishing the first tranche of safety research of other LLMs available to dog owners.
Secondly, as part of our research intensive approach, we look forward to accelerating the pace of innovations we are introducing including introducing new tools outside of our AI research to support dog owners through health decisions, as well as bringing more focus to ensuring the positive impact of our innovations. Our Summer/Fall updates will mark the first time ever dogAdvisor publishes Environmental Impact reporting for our innovations, detailing the exact environmental impact of dogAdvisor's innovations, and how we're working relentlessly to lower them. Furthermore, we look forward to delivering more research on accessibility of our innovations, and taking more steps to make our innovations available to more people than ever before.
Finally, this season will mark the most significant advancement in our safety and intelligence research ever, including highly substantial changes to Welfare Protection [a capability designed to assist dog owners facing significant mental distress, made possible with the support of Mind and Samaritans], significant changes to Max's ability to notify owners when vet intervention is necessary [by adding your Veterinary Contact], improvements to Foundation Safety Framework with ability to call more tools when necessary, and the most significant upgrades to Principle Alignments ever, where we take an entirely new approach to AI safety focusing intensely on teaching Max how to think rather than what to think, training him to adopt his own ethical frameworks, systems of behaviour, and personality. Of course, this will come with very significant changes in how dogAdvisor take accountability for our innovations. Overall, our Summer/Fall updates will be our first major push towards intense and world-leading research since our transition to a Research Organisation.
Max Series 5
Our updates will introduce the next generation of Max, which we know refer to as Series. With Max Series 5, we expect to deliver new tools for dog owners that massively accelerate their ability to take care of their dog and support their health. Series 5 will introduce new on-device Health capabilities, whilst supporting dog owners through taking care of and training their dog. Finally, we will look to massively increase Max's intelligence and give him the power to work with tools better and introduce more multi-modality with Max's ability to share and output images and maps. Together with Evaluation Index and our advancements in research, we expect Max Series 5 to be out biggest leap forward in intelligence, and the world's most delightful, helpful, and insightful model for dog owners.
Setting boundaries over multi-modality and Max answer quality
Increasingly, we're seeing more AI research labs introducing more multi-modality giving models the power to independently generate images and content, such as AI Image Generation. We are clear that this is not a research direction dogAdvisor has and will take. We believe in supporting the work of human professional through dog care, and uplifting the work of human experts. That means setting clearer boundaries over where AI is and isn't appropriate, which is why dogAdvisor will not use realistic AI image generation in this or future series of Max. Furthermore, for trust and safety purposes we are delaying multi-modality, and whilst we look to research and test image inputs we will not deliver this capability to Series 5 at launch as we need more time to test the accuracy of such models for identifying dog-related conditions and ensuring we figure through mechanisms to hold users accountable for inappropriate uploaded content. We will not use generative intelligence in health features and do not use it without restriction for diagrammatic or image analysis. Sometimes however some simple illustrations may require generative content as (unfortunately) we don't have teams of illustrators in house! However, where such content is used its carefully checked against clinical guidelines to ensure the guidance we're giving owners is accurate. At the risk of hallucinations in training and health content, generative models such as LLMs are only used in data interpretation in natural language and are not used in empowering Max's health or training features or trend data. We consider the risk of an elevated heart rate notification wrongly given by a generative model to be too inappropriate for deployment, so whilst Max will integrate very heavily with other Max capabilities, we are setting clearer boundaries over when its use is appropriate.
Updating our legal documents and regulatory compliance
As you expect, these new capabilities require us to update our legal and compliance processes, and we will clearly update dog owners using Max of when this is the case. Max Series 5 introduces one of the most powerful health models in the world, and the world's most accurate and safest commercial LLM for dog owners. As a result, we will publish new regulatory compliance documents on our boundaries over generative content and safety, and our other features such as those found in Health will be validated by research from dogAdvisor's Health and Wellbeing division. This also means we're introducing clearer distinctions between research areas for dogAdvisor with:
- dogAdvisor Intelligence (Research)
- dogAdvisor Health and Wellbeing (Research)
- dogAdvisor Safety, Trust, and Alignment (Research)
- dogAdvisor Cynology Sciences (Research), more focused on additional Max features outside of health and general intelligence and safety.
We further expect to set out more details on our accountability approach and compliance with relevant online safety and AI legislation later with Series 5.
Building magic delightfully
As you probably guessed, Summer/Fall will bring the most significant changes to Max since his original release, just in time for his birthday celebrations later in October! We expect to deliver Max Series 5 to dog owners, bringing the widest selection of capabilities and the best possible experience to dog owners. As well as all these announcements, we look forward to sharing more updates on dogAdvisor's branding, design, and direction as we look towards a major redesign of your dogAdvisor experience to provide more clarity over our purpose, more emotions over our impact, and more care around our messaging and innovations. As you can appreciate, we're still very early along our updates though we are moving at a remarkable pace! This announcement serves as a very brief introduction into what we expect to release later in July, and we look forward to sharing more about our progress as we approach the date! Thank you for following along.
